Why Every Member Of Your Family Needs A Personal Safety Plan

We have an "Accident Epidemic" in this country. This "epidemic" affects far more people than the viruses that grab the headlines.

With a Personal Safety Plan, you will significantly reduce
your chances of being involved in a serious accident.

Without a Personal Safety Plan, these are the odds you face.

  • Every year about 30,000,000 (1-in-10) of us go to emergency facilities due to off-the-job accidents, 20,000,000 are temporarily disabled, and 200,000+ are permanently disabled.

  • About 120,000 Americans will die accidentally in the next twelve months. Over 40,00 on the roads, over 40,000 at home, and over 30,000 in public locations.

  • Lifetime odds of dying accidentally are about 1-in-30 for males (more than 3%), and
    1-in-50 for females (2%).

  • Accidents are the leading cause of death for kids, teens, and young adults, ages 1 to 41.

and how the odds are calculated

As the following examples show, the good news is that
a planned approach to safety makes you and your family safer.

The DuPont company has a comprehensive off-the-job safety program. Its employees and their families have far fewer off-the-job accidents than the national average.

A program by the U.S. Navy emphasizing off-duty recreational safety has reduced fatalities by about 50 percent.

Nearly 70 percent of boating fatalities involve an operator who didn't take a boating safety class. Boating fatalities are down over 50% in the last 30 years due to an emphasis on safety.

Additional studies by the National Safety Council prove that off-the-job safety efforts reduce accidents.

Also, on-the-job fatalities have declined significantly over the years due to a safety emphasis and the safety training provided to employees.

A unique feature of the book is the use of light-humored
illustrations and true stories to help get the points across.

For years, Gail kept her favorite captain’s chair with its comfortable seat cushion beside her kitchen pantry. Not only was it an attractive piece of furniture, it was also perfect to stand on for reaching objects stored high in the pantry. On a stylistic whim, she replaced the flat cushion with a thicker version. The next time she climbed onto the chair, the surprising thickness of the new cushion caused her to lose her balance and crash to the floor, injuring her shoulder and striking her head.

Here's Some More Ideas On How The Safety Book For Your Family
Will Help You And Your Family Stay Safe With Personal Safety Plans

Driving Safety

The 20 Driving Topics, including a topic on teen drivers, will make everyone in your family a safer driver.  Go over the topics that apply to your daily trips. When you take long driving trips, look at the Long-Distance and Big Truck articles. When the seasons change, read the topics that apply to your part of the country.

Home Safety

Our homes are as dangerous as our roadways. As many people die at home as die in traffic accidents. The 30 Home Topics will make your home safer for your family and visitors. Poisonings, falls, and fires are the most dangerous hazards. Periodically review the Falls article. At the beginning of the heating season go over several fire and heating safety topics. The special activities around holiday periods require extra vigilance.

Leisure and General Safety

What are your family's leisure interests? Take a look at the 49 Leisure & General Topics that could apply. A number of water-related topics might be useful to examine as a family. Seasonal activities can be more dangerous than routine activities because we forget some of the hazards involved. Boating, camping, fishing, golf, and skiing are just a few of the topics that are covered.

Child Safety

As kids grow up, they face new dangers every year. The 30 Kids' Topics will help keep your kids and grandkids safe. Go over the book's age-specific and activity-specific topics as your kids and grandkids celebrate birthdays and develop new interests. A six-year-old faces many different hazards than he did as a toddler. Biking and other activities on wheels deserve special attention.

Teen Safety

Review with your teen driver the 20 Driving Topics. The information will accelerate their learning curve by making them more aware of hazards they are likely to encounter, and how to deal with the hazards. Other topics in the book will also be of great benefit to your teen.
Going through these topics will not only be a good learning experience for your teen, but you'll probably learn a few new things as well.
